GableStage presents

Shalom Y’all! Southern Jews & the Cotton Economy

Inspired by their upcoming production of The Lehman Trilogy, our partners at GableStage welcome Dr. Josh Parshall of the Goldring/ Woldenberg Institute for Southern Jewish Life to share insights combining the history of cotton production in the U.S South with southern Jewish histories. Together they will explore how Jewish migrants found their way to emerging market hubs, and- in many cases- came to occupy prominent positions in social and civic life. Along, the way we will consider how this history illuminates Jewish relationships to race and racism in the United States, and we will observe how changes in cotton production have shaped and reshaped Jewish communities in much of the rural South.

Attendees of the program will receive discounted tickets to The Lehman Trilogy, which runs at GablesStage from March 14th – April 21st.

Free of charge with your RSVP.
