Beth Am Helps to

Repair the World

The Tikkun Olam Committee is the Social Action arm of the congregation. We are guided by the Jewish principle of Tikkun Olam or “to repair the world.”

Our congregants are concerned with a broad range of social justice issues — from homelessness to hunger, to the needs of Jews around the world. Your Tikkun Olam Committee coordinates and provides volunteer assistance to synagogue, community and worldwide causes.

Whether it’s Mitzvah Day, a holiday Food Drive or volunteering at a homeless shelter… Tikkun Olam is a wonderful opportunity for parents to teach their children the meaning of tzedakah… for older children to fulfill their community service obligation… for all Beth Am members to get involved.

Join with us to make a difference. As Hillel said, “If I am only for myself, who am I?”

If you think you are too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.

Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) Update – Environmental Justice

Take Action Now!

Urge The White House to quickly adopt strong standards limiting pollutants!

The Reform Movement’s Power for Purpose Campaign is building power to advance environmental justice, stave off climate change’s devastation, and protect democracy. Through training and action in communities across our network, we are building power to move the White House to reflect the voters’ will and strengthen climate change regulations.

Click on this link rac.org/p4p for more information, and more urgently, click on the button that says “SEND A MESSAGE TO THE WHITE HOUSE” to quickly and easily urge the administration to adopt strong standards limiting pollutants. As you will see, the message is already written; you just need to add your name and contact information.

For more information or to get more involved in RAC initiatives, contact Jeff Agron at [email protected].

Collect Signatures Today and Ensure Floridians’ Right to Reproductive Healthcare

Since the passage of a bill by the Florida legislature restricting abortions to the first six weeks of pregnancy–before a person knows they are pregnant-a coalition of like-minded groups have joined forces to amend Florida’s Constitution to guarantee that the right to reproductive freedom remains that of the patient and their healthcare provider. This is because restrictions on reproductive freedom affect everyone, regardless of who they are or what they believe about abortion.

To make access to reproductive healthcare an option for all Floridians, we must first obtain one million petition signatures by the end of this year. With one million signatures, the initiative can then be put on the November 2024 ballot for the voters to decide.

We need your help now to collect these signatures. We need you to canvass our community-both at Beth Am and beyond it. If you want to make a difference, if you want to make access to reproductive healthcare an option for all pregnant persons, if you want to ensure our right to bodily autonomy, and if you want to be a voice for change and embody the values of Tikkun Olam today, please (1) sign the petition (here: https://floridiansprotectingfreedom.com/petition/) and (2) help us collect more signatures.

To learn more about this simple yet crucial effort, contact Judith Ratzan [email protected] or Brittany Addams [email protected]. Petition pick-up and drop-offs are also always available in the TBAM administrative offices.
