Tikkun Olam / Social Action

This is the social action, volunteer arm of Temple Beth Am. We are guided by the Jewish principle of Tikkun Olam, or "to repair the world."

Our congregants are concerned with a broad range of social justice issues — from homelessness and hunger, to the needs of Jews around the world. Your Tikkun Olam Committee coordinates and provides volunteer assistance to synagogue and community-wide causes.

We want and need your involvement. The success of our efforts depends on the participation of our Temple membership. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to teach their children about Tzedakah and for older children to fulfill their community service obligation.

  Feeding Our Community

The Tikkun Olam Committee leads the congregation’s year-round effort to feed the poor and homeless in our community.

We support the Jewish Community Services Kosher Food Bank— which, since 2003, has served those struggling to put food on their table... families with young children, recent immigrants and the elderly. Food Bank recipients select from a wide variety of fresh produce, frozen items, staples and canned goods. They "shop" during confidential appointments that ensure privacy and maintain dignity.

Temple Beth Am members also prepare and serve dinner on the second Sunday of every month at the South Miami-Dade Homeless Assistance Shelter in Homestead, operated by the Community Partnership for the Homeless.
