Social Justice & Volunteering with TBAM

Our Tikkun Olam Committee began the year with a successful first meeting and a Tikkun O Yum potluck dinner, bringing members together to share good food and ideas for making a difference in our community and beyond.

Since then, we have been putting those ideas into action. Rabbi Jason Cook took our commitment to caring for the environment to Virginia Key Beach for Reverse Tashlich, where congregants worked together to clean up the shoreline. Rabbi Rachel Greengrass was not able to join, but she did her part by cleaning up the canal near her home.

During the High Holidays, our congregation came together for our annual food drive benefiting JCS’s Kosher Food Bank. Thank you to the Goldstein family, who helped staple all of our bags for part of Lainey’s ongoing Bat Mitzvah project.

Lisa Heller Green arranged for all of the bags and the collection. Thanks to her, our Beth Am families, and our second grade Rambam students, who helped load hundreds of bags of food for families in need.

Being part of a community means being engaged citizens, and we gathered to have some fun playing mahjong and poker while writing postcards encouraging voters to register and to vote. We remain committed to reminding our community that every voice and every vote matters.

These are just the first steps in what we hope will be a year filled with opportunities to repair the world, strengthen our community, and turn Jewish values into action. We look forward to all that is still to come.

President, Tikkun Olam
