ARR Presents: The Jewish Movie Club Returns

The Israeli Movie Club, a Temple Beth Am tradition that operated for nearly a decade, is being revived following the recent upgrade of the library’s audio-video facilities and the donation of a multi-system DVD player.

The Temple Beth Am library has accumulated a substantial collection of Israeli and Judaica materials, including Israeli movies, documentaries, nonfiction programs, and Hebrew-language books. Before we can fully use this valuable collection, we need to know what we have.

A BRIVELE by Joseph Green and Leon Trystan
1938 Yiddish-language drama film. One of the last Yiddish films made in Poland before the Nazi invasion, this film tells the story of a mother’s persistent struggles to support her three children in pre-war World War II Polish Ukraine. After her family is pulled apart by severe poverty and the turmoil of war, she and her children make their way to New York and turn to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society for help.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
HELP US BUILD THE INVENTORY

We are looking for Hebrew-speaking volunteers and others interested in Israeli and Judaica materials to join a library project to:

• • Inventory and identify the Israeli and Judaica DVD collection
  • Record titles and subjects in Hebrew and English
  • Organize the collection by subject and type
  • Review and help organize the library’s Hebrew-language books
  • Consolidate these materials into an accessible collection for the library
  • Help identify films that could be selected for future Israeli Movie Club programs

You do not need to be a librarian. If you can read Hebrew or have an interest in Israeli films, Jewish history, or Judaica, we welcome your participation.
