Prayer Mastery for 3rd–6th Grades

Hebrew prayer mastery is an important component of our 3rd through 6th grade prayer curriculum.

It is also a skill for lifelong Jewish engagement. When we are fluent in reciting and singing the prayers, we are able to feel comfortable in any synagogue service setting.

In 3rd and 4th grades, the focus is on the central prayers of the Shabbat evening service. In 4th and 5th grades, the focus turns to the key prayers of the Shabbat morning service. Starting in 4th grade, prayers are reviewed from the previous year while new prayers are added.

When students have mastered one or more prayers, they may schedule appointments with either their teachers, Rabbi Rachel Greengrass or Director of Jewish Learning Joy Schandler to be tested on their mastery. During our closing Religious School program, recognition will be given to those students who have mastered all the grade level prayers.
