Sisterhood of Temple Beth Am
Dear Sisters and Friends,
I cannot believe that summer is almost over. I hope everyone enjoyed this time of the year, with less traffic, more sunshine, and extra relaxation. Sisterhood is gearing up for another exciting year of programs. Our offerings include Jewish education, learning, social events, art, and social justice, just to name a few. I would like to highlight two ongoing programs you might not have heard of.
- Sisterhood Book Club – Our book club has been going strong! If you have always wanted to join a book club but didn’t know where to start, this is a great one. Each year, the group selects interesting novels and meets every two months for a discussion led by a Sisterhood member. The first book they’ll discuss is The Briar Club by Kate Quinn, with Susan Rosenthal facilitating. The group will meet on September 11 at 7:00 p.m. Thank you to Lori Fabry and Angela Durand for chairing our book club. If you are interested, please contact Lori at [email protected] or Angela at [email protected].
- Cultural Competency – This group began as a way for us to understand the diverse cultures in our society. However, it has grown into thoughtful conversations about being a Jew in today’s world. We explore questions such as: Who are we as Jews? How can we use our understanding of ourselves to combat antisemitism? How do we live with the rapidly changing and escalating events in Israel? All points of view are welcome. The conversations, led by Rabbi Aklepi, are honest, open, and supportive. We meet every other Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. via Zoom. We welcome anyone interested to join. Thank you to Janet Kelfer for chairing this group. If you are interested in joining, please contact Janet at [email protected].
These are just two of our programs that have been ongoing over the past few years. When planning our programs, we always go back to our mission statement:
The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Am provides a strong sense of community for all women. Our mission is to create an environment of friendship, leadership, intellectual and spiritual growth, enrich our temple family, as well as to advance social justice through advocacy and action, as a legacy to future generations.
