SUMMARY:Sunday Salon
DESCRIPTION:NEW SOURCES AVAILABLE TO TRACE CONVERSO AND CRYPTO-JEWISH LINEAGES\nGuest Speaker: Genie Milgrom\nInternationally known researcher and author Genie Milgrom, a leading figure in the study of Converso and Crypto-Jewish genealogy, will share emerging tools and archival materials that enable families to reconnect with ancestors whose identities were hidden for centuries.\nGenie Milgrom was born in Havana, Cuba, into a Roman Catholic Family of Spanish Ancestry. In an unparalleled work of genealogy, she thoroughly documented her unbroken maternal lineage for 22 generations, tracing it back to 1405 to Pre-Inquisition Spain and Portugal.\nHistorical Note – Why March 15 Matters\nMarch 15 carries significance in Crypto-Jewish history. On this date in 1481, the Spanish Inquisition carried out the first public sentencing and burning of individuals in Seville accused of being secret Jews (Conversos/Crypto-Jews). This tragedy marked an early and defining moment in centuries of persecution that followed, including the 1492 Alhambra Decree. Many families later preserved their Jewish identity in secret or fled to the New World—lineages Genie Milgrom’s work helps uncover today.\nRSVP to Etta Gold, Egold@tbam.org ( mailto:Egold@tbam.org )\n\nWE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU! COME CHECK US OUT!\nTo explore the library online, visit: TBAM.ORG/LIBRARY ( http://TBAM.ORG/LIBRARY )\nIf you’re interested in joining us, please email me at egold@tbam.org.\n †‹ „\n
