Supporting Jewish Women and Their Families

Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain,” is a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families — of all Jewish backgrounds — facing breast cancer.

Sharsheret's mission is to offer a community of support to women diagnosed with breast cancer or at increased genetic risk, by fostering culturally-relevant individualized connections with networks of peers, health professionals and related resources.

Temple Beth Am is proud to host South Miami's Sharsheret Supports Group. Women from throughout south Miami-Dade County who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer or have the BRCA gene mutation come together to share, heal and improve the community. With monthly meetings ranging from organic cooking to baking for a women's shelter, this group is warm and inviting and is very unique.

Since its founding in 2001, Sharsheret has responded to more than 40,000 breast cancer inquiries, involved more than 3,000 peer supporters, and presented over 250 educational programs nationwide. Sharsheret supports women facing breast cancer at every stage — before, during and after diagnosis. Sharsheret’s programs are open to all women and men.
