Temple Beth Am is thrilled to welcome Cantor Peter Halpern as Associate Cantor beginning July 1, 2019. Our Senior Cantor, Rachelle Nelson, returns from her sabbatical on August 1st. How fortunate we are to have this incredibly talented cantorial team with many years of experience combined as cantors serving our congregation.
Cantor Peter Halpern developed a love of music and singing early on. He graduated with distinction from the Eastman School of Music and was ordained as cantor at the Hebrew Union College in New York.
Peter had the privilege of serving the Liberal Jewish Communities of Holland from 1988–1998, a powerful experience which enabled him to utilize his working knowledge of four foreign languages during those years. In November 2010, Cantor Halpern was invited to sing at the Vatican as part of a contingency of 20 North American Cantors.
Most recently, Peter has been the cantor of Temple Shalom in Newton, MA since 2012 and is the proud father of a 15-year-old son, Nathan.
Tov l’hodot l’Adonai. "It is good to give thanks to God." — Psalm 92
Cantor Halpern feels blessed to be coming to Miami and called to serve Temple Beth Am!
