Elliot Colchamiro presents
The Jews of Greece
Elliot Colchamiro will explain the history of Greek Jewry from the Roman era through the present time, including information on the fate of the Jews in Greece during the Holocaust, with an emphasis on the Romaniote (Greek speaking) Jews of Janina.
The Romaniote Jews were in Greece during the Roman era, well before the Jews banished from Spain arrived. Elliot, whose family comes from "Janina" Greece, is a member of the board of directors of Kehila Kedosha Janina on Manhattan's lower east side, established in 1927, and the only Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere.
This program is being brought to us by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami.
