Cemetery Visits for High Holy Days
Date: Sunday, September 16, 2018
Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Location: Mt. Nebo Kendall, Old Mt. Nebo and Lakeside Memorial
Kever Avot, the custom of visiting graves during the High Holy Days, has roots in Eastern European Jewish tradition.
The act may serve multiple purposes. Jewish mystics believe that we can ask our dead ancestors to intercede with God on our account.
In this special time of remembrance, it is an opportunity to teach others about the loved one whose grave we are visiting. We are also performing the mitzvah of kivod hamet, honoring the deceased.
No matter what your reason for visiting the grave of a loved one, this mitzvah demonstrates that the relationships we have with those we love survive even death. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
A member of our Clergy will meet you at the entrance of each cemetery at the following times:
10:00 am: Mt. Nebo Kendall, 5900 SW 77th Avenue
10:00 am: Old Mt. Nebo, 5505 NW 3rd Street
