Youth Activities at Temple Beth Am

Here at Beth Am, our youth live Jewish, meaning they:

• Do Jewish — by giving tzedakah, performing acts of gemilut hasadim and tikkun olam.
• Play Jewish — enjoy socializing with Jewish friends at our monthly youth group events and our weekly Teen Tuesday meetings for 7th–12th graders.
• Think Jewish — they apply Jewish ethics to relevant issues and events.

At Beth Am, our students are invited to be involved in both our Youth Group and our Religious School program. We are a strong presence in NFTY and in past years have hosted numerous kallot. Kallah is a weekend of informal learning, peer-led for teens across Florida in the North American Federation Temple Youth’s Southern Tropical Region (NFTY-STR).
 
Children of all ages view our congregation as a safe-haven away from the pressures of school and home. Our kids enjoy being here where they get to hang out with their friends while participating in a veriety of programming opportunities from social action projects to religious and culture and informal education.

Our program provides opportunities to participate in learning experiences that reflect the students’ interests and needs. We look to embrace our youth groupers and let them know they are respected and unconditionally loved. Their experience in our youth programs prepares them for living Jewishly and they continue to be involved in Jewish activities in college and beyond.
 
We will strive to ensure that youth groupers are active participants in the life of the larger congregation and can be found tutoring younger students, creating fundraisers for tzedakah, reaching out to the community all while embracing an atmosphere of play and wonder.

We are proud of our youth here at Beth Am. Our program allows the students to showcase their talents and truly be a light unto the nations.

Our B4BAFTY and BAFTY groups joined Temple Dor Dorim in Weston for a day at Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios in January 2011.

The 2012–2013 Youth Activities Department (YAD) Scholarship Application is now available.

Need-based scholarship assistance can be used toward Temple Beth Am Youth Department sponsored activities, Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) sponsored youth programs and other Jewish youth programs at the discretion of the review committee.

The deadline for a scholarship request is no later than 2 months prior to the start of the program your child will be attending. All applications for summer programs are due by March 31, 2013. Contact Josh Laurence, Director of Youth Programs, 305.667.6667, ext. 145 for more information.

Passport to Israel

In partnership with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation (GMJF), Passport to Israel is a unique savings incentive program that has made it possible for hundreds of families to provide inspiring, educational Israel experiences for their children.

It works like this: You enroll your child in the program any time between the 3rd and the 9th grade. For every year your child is enrolled, Temple Beth Am and the Federation will set aside funds to help with the cost of the Israel experience.
