A message from Robert Hersh
Executive Director, Temple Beth Am
What Anniversary you might ask?
This summer we marked our 10th year in the Lewis Family Religious Life Complex. It was the culmination of several years of building and revisioning our campus which was made possible by all of you who gave to the Home for our Heritage Campaign.
It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but not when you begin to feel the wear and tear on our facilities. Our campus is open 365 days a year sometimes up to 20 hours a day during our busy season. Fear not, however, as we are hard at work updating and maintaining our campus with our incredible custodial and maintenance crews headed by Carlos Restrepo, our Head Custodian, and Luis Garcia, our Head of Maintenance. Between them, overseen by Sharón Levi, our Director of Security and Operations, they manage the 15-member team that keeps Temple Beth Am looking fresh and clean every day.
This summer we replaced the carpeting of the Chapel, Grand Foyer and Social Hall. Come by and see our new look! In addition we resurfaced the “I-95” corridor that leads from the entrance of our offices to the catering kitchen with a hard surface, beautiful floor that will lower the costs of maintaining that very highly trafficked area. We also created an additional classroom through the conversion of part of the west side of the Adult Reading Room. As our Day School continues its growth under the leadership of Dr. Deborah Starr and her team, we find ourselves starved for space to accommodate our growing demand. We welcome Jennifer Ashton-Lilo, who will lead our Early Childhood program, and our new School Counselor Michelle Bortnik, who joined us in August.
Membership renewals are coming in fast and furious as Rita Diaz, our Membership Director, works her magic in making everyone who visits Temple Beth Am feel at home the moment they meet her. This year we celebrate Rita’s 19th year. Rita’s endearing ways have made it possible for us to continually increase our membership year after year. If you haven’t renewed yet, please contact her as soon as possible so that you can receive your admittance cards for the High Holy Days.
Summer Camp also was a great success under the leadership of Shari Debowsky and Liora Vogel. Together they created “boutique” camp offerings — something for every child to do while enjoying their summer. There is nothing more enjoyable then watching over 200 campers frolicking on our campus! Religious School and our Youth Program are preparing for a great new year filled with educational and fun offerings. Tamara Donnenfeld, our Director of Lifelong Learning, and Jacki Altman, our Youth Engagement Director, are planning incredible programs for our children.
Last, but certainly not least, our Clergy team is engaged in creating a meaningful High Holy Days experience for all ages. I look forward to greeting you during the High Holy Days.
